The Project

Our goal is to build a working door dead-bolt that will operate when an RFID signal is present. The “Wireless Door Lock” will need to be a secure system such that only the RFID card assigned to a lock will actually work on it. During the process of building such a model we have several goals along the way.

  • Figure out RFID Technology
  • Figure out mechanism for moving deadbolt
  • Locate and purchase all parts needed
  • Construct model
  • Spend Countless hours in lab perfecting system

During this process we will provide two interim reports to show the progess that has been made on our system to date.

VERY IMPORTANT!!

The final system used must be able to withstand punishing blows administered by stupid drunken people. The system should also be as water-tight as possible to protect against the same kind of people.

Mr. Fotsch is currently the president of the local realtor firm MOD POD Inc., which owns and manages several of the area apartment buildings and properties. As a manager of apartment properties, we believe that Mr. Fotsch will be able to inform us of some of the problems that he has had in the past, such as destruction of property and whether the cost of installing such a system would in fact be feasible in existing buildings. While we may not look to Mr. Fotsch for guidelines on how our system needs to work physically/electronically, he will be able to tell us what a “real” customer would expect of such a system in terms of durability and ease of use.
